Hosting Help
Livetodot do not provide hosting. We are a name registration service and as one of the best in the world we are committed to what we do best - registering names.
We do however offer our clients 3 options
- You can use our web forwarding services for free.
- You can host your domain on a secure multi-homed network with our parent company Fubra, from as little as £150 per year.
- You can change your nameservers so the domain resolves to any ISP's nameservers. (Only if ISP supports nameserver additions in required format.)

Web Forwarding:
- Problem:
- Search engines may not be able to index your site properly due to the way we have to set up our forwarding.
- Remedy:
- Once logged in you can list your domains and if you have given any of them cloaked forwarding you can configure the cloaked forwarding service. You do this by entering the title of your page, a description and some keywords. All this will make your site more visible to the search engines.
- Problem:
- If you follow a link from your site to an external web site your domain name will still show in the address bar rather than the domain of the site you have now moved on to.
- Remedy:

Adding a parameter to your links as detailed below can solve this. If you want the external site's URL to show up in the location box to replace your domain name, you need to change the HTML code for the link to an external site by adding a 'target="_top"' in to the code.
<a href="http://www.mypartnerssite.com">Will need to look like...<a href="http://www.mypartnerssite.com" target="_top"> - Problem:
- You cannot bookmark a page in your web site as www.yournewdot.it/page.html as it is only the domain name that shows in the address bar window. You can however bookmark your main page.
- Remedy:
- None, this is one of the limitations of this type of forwarding.
- Problem:
- If you follow a link from your site to an external web site your domain name will still show in the address bar rather than the domain of the site you have now moved on to.
- Remedy:

None (or buy commercial web-space for your domain)

Cloaked Web Forwarding:
- Advantage:
- The Real address of your free web space is hidden and only the domain you specify is shown, this looks much more professional than the Refresh Web Forwarding.
- Advantage:
- Due to the fact that the URL is so much shorter and on display for longer, it's more likely people will remember it.
- Disadvantage:
- As Talked about above certain problems can arise from Cloaked Web Forwarding.
Hosting with www.fubra.com
Because of the strict rules imposed on ISP's by the Italian registration authorities it is recommended that you only host your dot it name with reputable providers.
You can mostly tell if a provider is qualified to host a dot it name if they can make changes to their nameservers. Providers without access to their own nameservers will find it difficult to set up your hosting for you. This can lead to long unnecessary delays that can be avoided by using a provider like www.fubra.com.
Using someone else's server, either yours or your ISP's
We are happy to let you host your name on your own servers or on the servers of an ISP you use. Unlike many providers we make no charge for the ability to edit which nameservers your domain points to. However, we will make clear now that changes to the nameserver details from the control panel will only work once the name has been added to the new nameservers. A name cannot therefore be parked until it has records in the nameserver to which it is pointing.
To use this feature simply log on, choose My Domains from the menu and click the Change NS button next to the name you want to edit.
